Product Photography
Product photography is just that…photographing your products.
J has been a product photographer for more than 10 years—specializing in art photography for galleries and auctions. During those 10 years, J has had a yearly auction photography project in which he has shot and edited his photos and the photos of other photographers for use as the auction listing.
Over the last few years the number of gallery and auctions items have increased, which has allowed his wife, Nikole, to partner with him in the photo taking and editing process…mainly the editing. J does most of the photography while she does most of the more complicated edits; freeing J up to focus on the photography and overall workflow of keeping the photo files organized and getting them to the catalog editor in a timely fashion. Take a look at the March in Montana auction catalog to see some of their work.
Do you have a product or products that you would like to feature on a website or in a catalog? They don’t have to be pieces of art. Your product(s) can be jewelry, clothes, dishes, etc.

Digital Photo Retouching/editing and Restoration
Do you have photos that didn’t quite turn out as you expected? They just didn’t look like you saw them in real life? Or would you like to “pop” just a little bit more? Nikole can help you with that.
Nikole started her photography career as a volunteer sports/action photographer for her daughter’s basketball and swim teams; earning her nickname from some as the teams’ “momtographer”. Each season she would do general edits to her photos after taking them to make them pop. And at the end of the season, she also would try have one custom edited photo each season for each team member (or at least the seniors) to make them stand out. Kind of like having their own sports card. Each season the edits became a little more complex and snazzy. She did this for about four years before COVID struck and she became pregnant; limiting her access and ability to take photos as she used to.
But the editing didn’t slow down. She has continued with her love for retouching/editing photos by partnering with her husband, J. During the fall (their busiest time of year), they partner up—J takes the majority of the product photography and Nikole will tackle the more complex/time consuming edits…freeing J up to continue taking photos for their yearly fall project. And she still edits photos from the past and present that she has taken just for fun.
In addition to retouching photos, Nikole can also digital restore photos. You know…those old photos of grandma or grandpa from back in the day that have somehow made it from box to box or house to house over the years. But in the process have also gotten scratched, torn, or otherwise damaged. Those are fixable…in most cases. But they don’t have to be old photos. Nikole’s love for digital photo restoration came about when one of her daughter’s school pictures fell behind the fridge and in the process of retrieving it, some scratching, tearing, and discoloration happened—and was soon fixed. In Nikole’s opinion, digital photo restoration is one of the most satisfying types of photo editing.
Graphic Design
Most people think illustrations or drawings of graphics when they hear the term “graphic design”. They aren’t wrong. Graphic design can be a creative expression via drawings and illustrations that usually end up on t-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, etc.
However, in the journalistic world, graphic design refers to the page layout of a newspaper, a magazine, a book, an advertisement, etc.
At Expressions in Media, we specialize in the journalist form of graphic design.
J started his graphic design career early working at a local print shop doing page layout before going to school and earning a Bachelor’s in Science degree for Journalism. After earning his degree, J worked for the Wyoming Tribune Eagle as a copy and layout editor for several years before he decided to start teaching the art of mass and multi-media and graphic design at Laramie County Community College. While teaching at LCCC, J has also advised and overseen the production of Wingspan, the campus newspaper (currently in hiatus). J is currently the Communication and Creative Arts Pathway Coordinator and teaches digital photography at LCCC.
Nikole’s experience with journalistic graphic design is not as extensive as J’s. Her entry into the media and graphic design fields came later in life. In 2016, after 15 years working as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), Nikole started photography and explored the art of graphic design as an artist as a hobby. She earned her Associates of Arts in Mass/Multimedia in 2018 while still working full-time as a CPhT. Afterward she assisted J with graphic design projects while continuing to work as a full-time CPhT until 2022.
In 2022, Nikole moved to being a stay-at-home mom and J’s business partner in Expressions in Media, LLC. In addition to much of the business administrative duties, Nikole partners with J in all aspects of the business.
Together, with 20+ plus years of experience, J and Nikole are capable of helping you express yourself and/or your business with a creative and appropriate designs.
So…do you need business cards? Maybe just a digital or printable advertisement flyer? Or maybe you need a Standard Operating Procedure/Policy and Procedures Manual?
